Avery Yale Kamila created GreenMarketReport.com as a reflection of her passion for the earth and her belief in the
transformative power of capitalism. Avery is the assistant editor at The Maine Switch, a free weekly
lifestyle magazine in Greater Portland.
Her writing has appeared in
Natural Home,
Poets & Writers,
Ethical Corporation,
Healthy-Living-Today.net,
GreenBiz.com,
Natural New England, and
In Business.
She is the former lifestyle editor of a community newspaper and the former editor of
North Carolina’s only green business publication.
Before moving to North Carolina, Avery served as the community
relations manager at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
There she led the hospital's web
development efforts, coordinated special events and collaborated with local
community groups. Earlier in her career, she organized
trade shows at United Publications
(host of the Natural Gourmet Food Show) and
coordinated seminars for business executives at
The Institute for Global Ethics.
Avery grew up on a lakeside farm in Litchfield, Maine where her parents still
grow organic fruits and vegetables in the summer. She attended the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications
at Syracuse University for two years before receiving a BA in environmental policy and
management from the SUNY, College of Environmental Science
and Forestry at Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, she helped create a student group to promote socially
responsible business. The group urged undergraduates to work for and buy from greener companies and published
A Teacher's Guide to Students Shopping for a Better World.
After taking a handful of business management courses at the University of
Southern Maine, Avery continues to pursue areas of interest. She was selected to
attend the 2003 Stonecoast
Writers’
Conference in Freeport, Maine. She also has training from the
Prudential Carolinas Real Estate School and the National
Association of Home Builders.
Avery lives with her husband in Portland, Maine, where they remodel neglected historic buildings.
