Leaders in Mainstream and Cannabis Media Speak to the Evolution of Billion Dollar Sector and What’s Next in 2020

(September 25, 2019) NEW YORK, NY /AxisWire/As New York, New Jersey and Connecticut investigate how best to legalize cannabis in 2019 and millions of investment dollars investments pour into companies vying for space in an increasingly crowded U.S., hundreds of industry-leading mainstream and cannabis media journalists, professionals and companies will gather at the Mannada Cannabis Media Summit: Follow the Money, which will be held in New York City from Friday, October 18 to Saturday, October 19, 2019.

With a focus on the millions pouring into the cannabis space by big business and investors and how it shapes the industry, the two-day-long event explores;

  • how to raise money and build a media company;
  • the nostalgic rise of print journalism;
  • how to write about and ethically cover the cannabis industry;
  • updates and big-picture trends for the future;
  • how cannabis reporting changes public perception;
  • being a responsible public relations professional;
  • cannabis-specific issues in financial reporting;
  • podcasting,
  • and many other topics.

“The media plays a crucial role in shaping how the public understands key issues, including cannabis legalization,” said Mannada Founder and Senior Counsel to Greenspoon Marder Kristin Jordan. “Journalists are our first line of defense against out of control corporations, unethical business and outdated, draconian federal cannabis policies. We couldn’t be more excited to have some of the cannabis industry’s top writers, publicists and business people to help uncover why this new beat is important to business, policy and politics, social justice, economics and culture.”

Program highlights include CBNC’s Timothy Seymour on his personal experience in the world of business and business reporter, Dan Adams, the Boston Globe’s first dedicated cannabis reporter on exposing shady cannabis operators informed by the Globe’s

groundbreaking Spotlight Team series, insights from Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commissioner Shaleen Title, Debra Borchardt, the founder of Green Market Report, on new and interesting ways to fund media enterprises and New Jersey State Assemblyman Jamel Holley on an update of legalization efforts in his home state among others.

“I’ve been to about a million marijuana conferences — but the Cannabis Media Summit is my favorite event of the year,” said Boston Globe Cannabis Writer and “This Week in Weed” Author Dan Adams. “It’s the only forum where marijuana journalists and other media professionals can share information on how to cover and communicate about the marijuana movement and the industry that’s rapidly growing out of it. Kristin and her team always recruit an inclusive lineup of accomplished speakers who push me to look deeper and consider new perspectives — the kind of wisdom I can’t wait to share with my readers.”

Cannabis Media Summit panelists and presenters are pioneers of cannabis journalism, business and public relations including, Jeanne Sullivan of ArcView; Sirita Wright of Estrohaze; Andrew Ward of Benzinga; Adrian Farquharson of Fresh Media Inc (MARY Magazine); Powerplant Global Strategies Senior Vice President Ellen Mellody; Tauhid Chappell of Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists; and Steve Gelsi of The Deal, to name a few.

Port Richey, FL – July 31 /AxisWire/ of Pasco County, Florida has earned a spot on the 9th Annual 50 Florida Companies to Watch list, a statewide competition that identifies companies expected to see significant growth over the next several years. GrowFL, an economic development organization, announced the honorees on July 31st, 2019.

MagicalButter invented the world’s first countertop Botanical Extractor (MB2e), designed for infusing the essence of healthy herbs like cannabis, lavender, and moringa, to name a few, into butter, oil, tinctures, lotions, and more.

The top 50 companies were selected from more than 500 nominees. All honorees are considered “second-stage” companies — those with six to 150 full-time employees and $750,000 to $100 million in annual revenue. Elements they share include: strong management team, competitive market position, strong community involvement, innovative products, and empowered employees.

“These stand-out companies are all led by entrepreneurs, and have demonstrated their capacity and intent to grow,” Dr. Tom O’Neal, GrowFL executive director, said in announcing the honorees. “They also all have critical intellectual property or a niche position that gives them a competitive edge in their markets.”

MagicalButter’s CEO, Garyn Angel, saw a need for an effective and affordable decarboxylation method for health conscious consumers who wanted to make herbal products at home, and invented the DecarBox in 2017. This high-grade silicone shell and digital thermometer probe was the first of it’s kind and created a new category in the industry.

The cannabis edibles market has more than doubled since 2011, according to ArcView Research and BDS Analytics, and could be worth more than $4.1 billion in Canada and the United States by 2022, making it a promising opportunity for investment. Demand for MB2e has risen in parallel and MagicalButter has expanded to Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

MagicalButter not only caters to recreational consumers, but has also carved out a unique niche as a cannabis culinary resource for chefs, business owners, and patients across the globe. The MB2e helps consumers easily integrate cannabis into their diet.

MagicalButter has also developed a line of hemp-derived CBD products in the pet, beauty, and wellness categories. Hemp is a new and fast-growing category that MagicalButter is set to dominate.

New Marketplace Allows for Expanded Business Networking and Partnership Opportunities

Denver, CO – July 25, 2019 /AxisWire/ Leafwire, the largest cannabis business network worldwide, is pleased to announce the closing of a Seed Round of $1 Million. Leafwire has grown rapidly, often with over 1,000 members visiting the platform daily. Leafwire has more than 16,000 members currently and is projected to surpass 25,000 members by the end of the year. Along with their Seed Round announcement, Leafwire has also announced the launch of its new Marketplace feature.

The Leafwire Marketplace will act as a robust cannabis business directory with 50+ categories ranging from Legal Services, Payment Processing, Domain Names to Packaging. This cannabis-friendly directory is designed for and based on Leafwire member requests, where everyone can find and connect with the exact cannabis services they’re looking for.

Led by CEO Peter Vogel, he explains, “We built Leafwire to create a safe place where cannabis business professionals can connect, share ideas, find employees and find investors, something that is taken for granted in other industries. Cannabis is a unique industry and we built Leafwire for that reason; to serve the needs of all cannabis industry professionals.”

Leafwire’s Seed Round of $1 Million includes investments from Network Ventures, Silverleaf Venture Partners, KEY Investment Partners, and One East Partners.

Jordan Youkilis, Founding Partner of KEY Investment Partners, expressed his confidence in the platform, “We became investors in Leafwire, because even in their early stages they have been an invaluable source of deal flow for us. Leafwire has helped to connect us with dozens of dynamic entrepreneurs we wouldn’t have otherwise met. We expect the value provided by Leafwire to continuously increase.”

In addition to the Marketplace, they also expect to launch one of the largest cannabis job boards in the industry in the coming weeks. The job board has been the most requested feature by Leafwire members, from both companies looking for employees and job-seekers.

Speaking on his personal success on Leafwire, Greg Cowan, Investor and Business Consultant at Greenleaf HR, shares, “I was amazed at how quickly networking on Leafwire paid off in a short period of time. Within the first couple of months, I read an article posted by one of my connections that described banking challenges experienced by a CBD manufacturer and retailer. I took a leap of faith and cold-called the person in the article and two weeks later I had an executed Client Services Agreement. Keep in mind, this is a person whom I would have never known about had I not been networking on Leafwire that morning.”

Company behind the first cannabis e-commerce marketplace expands to keep up with global demand for retail cannabis products sold online

Santa Cruz, Calif., July 16, 2019 /AxisWire/ Jane Technologies, Inc., a retail software company that created the first and largest online cannabis marketplace, has announced it has secured $21 million in Series B funding, one of the largest capital raises by a cannabis technology platform.

This latest round of funding, led by new and returning investors, will allow Jane to expand its online marketplace to international vendors, bolster its data analytics platform, and deliver data to other industries. The funds will also enable Jane to continue to advance its e-commerce platform of more than 150,000 products with real-time integration into point-of-sale systems.

Jane’s mission is to bring confidence to the cannabis shopping experience while connecting customers to local dispensaries with quality wellness products from their area. In October 2018 Jane announced $6 million in Series A funding, which enabled the tech company to grow its technological advances and data analytics while providing consumers an optimized shopping experience. The company is currently in partnership with more than 700 stores across 21 states.

“In a world dominated by major multi-national online retailers, we’re bringing together innovative technology to support local businesses, and connecting customers to wellness benefits in their region,” said Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Socrates Rosenfeld. “Expanding to global markets is key for Jane as we continue to pioneer the industry and grow an industry-leading team. By helping cannabis companies in the U.S. and overseas, we are localizing the online sales process by bringing together dispensaries, brands and consumers through automation.”

As the cannabis industry continues to rapidly expand, Jane’s internal data has demonstrated people spend double on online purchases than in-person. Today people who purchase CBD spend 50% more than those who do not. Research also shows the online cannabis shopper will spend an average of $206 a month compared to the offline shopper who spends only $122 a month.

“We’ve seen Jane effectively support some of the largest retailclients in the country and are pleased to partner with the software innovator so they can grow exponentially,” said lead investor Nick Deans of Pakala Jane Partners. “The online retail marketplace allows Jane to promote local businesses and increase sales with larger shopping cart purchases while keeping transaction costs down.”

Ian Dominguez of Delta Emerald Ventures sees significant value creation opportunity in Jane’s consumer-centric data. “Jane’s purpose-built platform will continue to drive operational improvement for the cannabis industry. In addition, the Jane platform translates across many industries, making Jane as a whole, the future of omnichannel data.”

“Within the rapidly evolving cannabis space, Jane’s insights as the largest facilitator of e-commerce in the industry are invaluable to its partners, particularly for brands seeking to establish and position themselves within an increasingly crowded marketplace,” said Jason Adler, Managing Partner of Gotham Green Partners. “This investment provides resources for building additional infrastructure and proprietary interfaces to help cannabis businesses worldwide to maximize their potential.”
