24-year-old entrepreneur Narmin Jarrous is the Chief Development Officer of Exclusive Brands, Michigan’s first-ever licensed dispensary. From her own life experiences, Narmin has dedicated her life to ensuring the industry succeeds in the best way possible while educating others about the health and wellness benefits of cannabis.

Narmin graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2018 with a degree in Behavioral and Biological Sciences and a minor in Sociology and then went into medical sales and was promoted to the Director of Marketing in just three short months.

Narmin worked at a restaurant management company throughout her high school and college tenure, where she was introduced to the team that would eventually be Exclusive Brands. She left her role in medical sales to run Exclusive’s Business Development department because her values aligned with the overall company mission of making clean and safe cannabis accessible to all while promoting social equity. She is the youngest executive in Exclusive history and hopes to make her mark on the cannabis industry.

The state’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) turned to Narmin to structure and run its first remote Business Resource Workshop as part of the state’s social equity program. The presentation was a huge success and over 70 attendees turned out (usually there’s a crowd of about 10 for such state workshops). Narmin was diagnosed with Endometriosis about 10 years ago. Using different cannabis wellness products significantly helped her minimize the complications caused by Endometriosis and improved Narmin’s quality of life.

 This inspired Narmin to launch a new cannabis lifestyle and wellness product line Neno’s Naturals that offers both medical and adult-use consumers access to superior quality natural products by utilizing ingredients sourced from local farmers to support health and strengthen communities. This really pushed me out of my comfort zone as I never thought of myself as someone who’s necessarily creative, and I think marketing takes a lot of creativity. I’m much more of an analytical person, and I think that I brought a lot to the role, and the things I learned in that position really influenced the way I wanted to roll out Neno’s Naturals. 

Company Mission: Increasing access to safe, clean cannabis on a nationwide scale by applying the same successful business model that Exclusive Brands established in Michigan in other states.

Company’s most successful achievement: Securing Michigan’s first adult-use licenses in cultivation, processing, and retail is something that I’m very proud we accomplished. We’ve managed to grow our retail presence, including opening a new retail store in Grand Rapids, while continuing to produce Michigan’s top brands. Being able to reach almost every cannabis consumer through our retail partners is such a great feeling.

 Any plans on raising capital in the future? The market is changing every day. Our plans to secure capital will depend on the changing market conditions and how aggressively we choose to pursue our expansion in 2021 and beyond.

Most important company 5-year goal: My vision for the company is to continue expanding in a way that allows us to increase access to cannabis for everyone who needs it. As marijuana gains acceptance on the federal level, I hope we continue to see growth into other states where safe, high-quality cannabis isn’t accessible.

Cannabis has historically been difficult to access – especially in black and brown communities. These communities have been demonized, excessively policed and disenfranchised from the industry. Our hope is to increase cannabis accessibility in every way – from a geographic standpoint to an affordability standpoint. Anyone who wants access to this medicine should have it. Cassondra “Khadijah” Adams is originally from Sugar Land, Texas. She started her first  business while raising four sons as a single mother. Khadijah Adams has been a full-time  entrepreneur since 1997. Khadijah entered the cannabis industry in 2014 by way of the  Colorado market. She began investing in cannabis-related companies shortly thereafter  and formed MIPR Holdings where she served as the founder and senior managing  partner for 3-1/2 years and was responsible for consulting and connecting accredited  investors to viable investment opportunities in the space.

When we released the first universally fitting mouthpiece in 2015, it was an instant success and resonated with consumers across the board. From there we continued to innovate; taking our harm reduction focus one step further with the release of the newly designed MouthPeace and Filters in 2019. Paola Fernandez is the 30-year-old Founder & CEO of High Hemp, an all organic herbal wrap company. While working at her father’s cigar company, Paola came up with the idea ‘natural’ alternative to tobacco-based rolling paper and wraps. In 2016, the company created a revolutionary product, hemp wraps: an all-organic sheet of hemp paper made to roll your own herbs. Sales skyrocketed right from the get-go and, as a result, she has turned her idea into a $10 million company in under five years – and all before the age of 30 (which she just turned back in October).

Being first to market definitely has its advantages, but that doesn’t mean Paola did not/does not experience challenges along the way. “As a brown female in the LGBTQ community, my business and legitimacy in the hemp/cannabis industry is at times questioned – but that only makes me work harder and more determined to prove people wrong.” Paola’s goal is to take the cannabis market, which has been heavily dominated by males and make it more approachable to the female consumer.

College was never a consideration and as an eager 18 year old fresh out of high school, I owned and operated a small Italian restaurant in Rhode Island that was financed by my parents. For the five years straight I worked 85+ hours a week–it was a crash course in learning how to run a business, and I didn’t know enough to stop. It was a business with a high failure rate and to me, failure was not an option. I bought it in 1982 and sold in 1987, and that was the education I needed to further my drive as an entrepreneur.

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis: 

Given where I am today, my most successful professional accomplishment prior to founding HERBL was certainly my time in the organic food space, and specifically as president of UNFI, the largest wholesale distributor of natural foods in the U.S. It prepared me for this endeavor in cannabis.

Cannabis is on the same trajectory of the boom of the organic foods space in the early 2000s, and the similarities are remarkable. Legalized cannabis is only here today because of all those who fought to establish it, and who never gave up on what they believed in. Like natural foods, cannabis has centered upon lots of smaller, quality brands developed by people passionate about their product and the plant. Today’s multi-billion natural food industry was also established by artisans who came together with a communal mission.

While president of UNFI, within ten years we rapidly scaled from a multi-regional company with $800 million in sales to a national company with $5 billion+ in the books. I see the enormous potential again now. With all that has transpired with the recent election and cannabis reforms, we are now more than ever on the cusp of the same boom.

Most important company 5-year goal: In five years we’d like to have helped all of our partners, both brands and retail, meet each of their growth goals, and hence to be known for delivering exceedingly great services that create loyal customers, appreciative brands, and happy employees. I’d love to look back and feel we have lived up to our core principles of demonstrated passion, unrelenting integrity, flawless execution, and to have honored the legacy of California cannabis while helping create its future.
