24-year-old entrepreneur Narmin Jarrous is the Chief Development Officer of Exclusive Brands, Michigan’s first-ever licensed dispensary. From her own life experiences, Narmin has dedicated her life to ensuring the industry succeeds in the best way possible while educating others about the health and wellness benefits of cannabis.

Narmin graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2018 with a degree in Behavioral and Biological Sciences and a minor in Sociology and then went into medical sales and was promoted to the Director of Marketing in just three short months.

Narmin worked at a restaurant management company throughout her high school and college tenure, where she was introduced to the team that would eventually be Exclusive Brands. She left her role in medical sales to run Exclusive’s Business Development department because her values aligned with the overall company mission of making clean and safe cannabis accessible to all while promoting social equity. She is the youngest executive in Exclusive history and hopes to make her mark on the cannabis industry.

The state’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) turned to Narmin to structure and run its first remote Business Resource Workshop as part of the state’s social equity program. The presentation was a huge success and over 70 attendees turned out (usually there’s a crowd of about 10 for such state workshops). Narmin was diagnosed with Endometriosis about 10 years ago. Using different cannabis wellness products significantly helped her minimize the complications caused by Endometriosis and improved Narmin’s quality of life.

This inspired Narmin to launch a new cannabis lifestyle and wellness product line Neno’s Naturals that offers both medical and adult-use consumers access to superior quality natural products by utilizing ingredients sourced from local farmers to support health and strengthen communities. The line has a tranquil aesthetic and includes vaporizers, topical patches, tinctures, and capsules.

Full name: Narmin Jarrous

Title: Chief Development Officer

 Company: Exclusive Brands

Years at current company: 1 year, 10 months

Education profile: University of Michigan-Dearborn, BA in Behavioral and Biological Sciences with a minor in Sociology.

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis: After graduation, I went into medical sales, where in just three short months I got promoted to Director of Marketing. This really pushed me out of my comfort zone as I never thought of myself as someone who’s necessarily creative, and I think marketing takes a lot of creativity. I’m much more of an analytical person, and I think that I brought a lot to the role, and the things I learned in that position really influenced the way I wanted to roll out Neno’s Naturals.

Company Mission: Increasing access to safe, clean cannabis on a nationwide scale by applying the same successful business model that Exclusive Brands established in Michigan in other states.

Company’s most successful achievement: Securing Michigan’s first adult-use licenses in cultivation, processing, and retail is something that I’m very proud we accomplished. We’ve managed to grow our retail presence, including opening a new retail store in Grand Rapids, while continuing to produce Michigan’s top brands. Being able to reach almost every cannabis consumer through our retail partners is such a great feeling.

Has the company raised any capital (yes or no): We have not raised any capital, and are completely self-funded and debt-free as of 2021.

Any plans on raising capital in the future? The market is changing every day. Our plans to secure capital will depend on the changing market conditions and how aggressively we choose to pursue our expansion in 2021 and beyond.

Most important company 5-year goal: My vision for the company is to continue expanding in a way that allows us to increase access to cannabis for everyone who needs it. As marijuana gains acceptance on the federal level, I hope we continue to see growth into other states where safe, high-quality cannabis isn’t accessible.

Cannabis has historically been difficult to access – especially in black and brown communities. These communities have been demonized, excessively policed and disenfranchised from the industry. Our hope is to increase cannabis accessibility in every way – from a geographic standpoint to an affordability standpoint. Anyone who wants access to this medicine should have it. That’s the idea behind Neno’s Naturals, the latest brand being launched through Exclusive Brands. Neno’s Naturals is committed to amplifying the message that cannabis is for everyone. Everybody is different, so people need a comprehensive approach to their cannabis consumption. Neno’s Naturals offers that through our wide selection and combination of patches, tinctures and vapes.

Title: Chief Regional Leader North America, President of RotaChrom North America

Company: RotaChrom Technologies

Years at current company: 1 year, 7 months

Education profile: University of Humberside, BA in European Business Administration

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis: I founded and successfully grew a startup software development company. I love challenging traditional practices and creating innovative new business models by bringing together the perspective of the converging industries. I’m excited about the potential impact of cannabinoids on our lives.

Company Mission: RotaChrom is a technology company on the front lines of purification solutions for a myriad of industries. We manufacture world-class chromatography platforms widely used for botanical extract purification within the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and botanical industries.

Company’s most successful achievement:  RotaChrom Technologies invented the first Centrifugal Partition Chromatography (CPC) machine, which is made for industrial-scale purification. The platform is scalable, versatile, and cost efficient compared to older versions of chromatography.

RotaChrom offers a more efficient solution to chromatography with the world’s first commercially available, industrial-scale CPC technology platform. The technology has revolutionized the purification industry by providing cost-effective, commercial-scale chromatography solutions to clients worldwide. The platform allows companies to expand high purity production capacity with flexibility and scalability, while decreasing environmental impact.

As the cannabis and hemp industries grow, the technology for mass production must evolve to meet the increased demand. Advanced technology solutions are adapting to meet the needs of increasingly complex, highly regulated markets. Chromatography, a technological system for purification of botanical extracts, is making strides to keep up with the booming business of legal hemp and cannabis.

RotaChrom’s unique industrial-scale CPC offers unmatched purification of botanical extracts, rendering a highly pure form of compounds of interest, from APIs to macromolecules, at large scale. Since the RotaChrom platform is scalable, producers can easily increase production to meet growing demand for a product, such as minor cannabinoids or pure CBD.

Has the company raised any capital (yes or no): No.

Most important company 5 year goal:

As additional states in the U.S. legalize cannabis and hemp, we have the opportunity to expand our reach to new companies in those markets. Our systems purify minors at the highest level and many companies will need to turn to solutions like ours in order to meet a more regulated market. Regulation of the CBD industry is good. While some people consider it a problem, we see it as a positive, so that high-quality, regulated products make it to consumers.

We at RotaChrom aim to keep advancing our purification technology and solutions, which will help our customers meet their purification goals.

Maria Testa is the Co-Founder of Moose Labs, where she handles branding, social media and customer relations. It was Maria’s “aha” moment that led to the development of the MouthPeace product line. In a predominantly male-run industry, her female perspective of the market and its associated problems have been a driving force behind the growth of Moose Labs. Before joining Moose Labs full-time, Maria worked for Halo Top Creamery, which was the #1 selling pint of ice cream in the U.S in August 2017, and in the same year was named one of the top inventions of the year by Time Magazine. Maria graduated from Nichols College in 2012 with a BSBA and her MBA in 2013 before fulfilling her lifelong dream of moving to California.

Full birth name:

Maria Testa

Moose Labs LLC

Years at current company:

4 Years

Education profile:

MBA & BSBA, Nichols College in Massachusetts

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis:

Before committing to Moose Labs full-time, I worked for Halo Top Ice Cream, which was named one of Time Magazine’s top inventions of the year in November 2017.

Company Mission:

Moose Labs creates alternative innovations for the cannabis industry. Our mission is to provide a more enjoyable cannabis experience by producing innovative harm reduction products that solve the problems of the everyday cannabis consumer.

Company’s most successful achievement:

Our most successful achievement is taking our idea from a simple sketch to an internationally distributed product that has sold millions of units. Moose Labs was first to market with a germ prevention product for the cannabis industry. Before releasing the MouthPeace, there were no real options for germ conscious consumers. When we released the first universally fitting mouthpiece in 2015, it was an instant success and resonated with consumers across the board. From there we continued to innovate; taking our harm reduction focus one step further with the release of the newly designed MouthPeace and Filters in 2019. In the age of Covid19, we’re seeing the industry move more rapidly in a positive direction– one that is more health and safety-conscious overall.

Has the company raised any capital (yes or no):

if so, how much?:

In 2017, Moose Labs participated in an Arcview Investor Forum and secured funding. Fortunately, since our initial investment, Moose Labs has become profitable and has been able to continue expanding without raising additional capital.

Any plans on raising capital in the future?

We do not have plans to raise capital at this time.

Most important company 5-year goal:

Our focus is to continue to grow and expand our product line and build out a more robust ecommerce/subscription platform. We’re hopeful to see marijuana legalized at the federal level and we plan to broaden our international distribution channels, while simultaneously growing our brick and mortar presence domestically and abroad.

Paola Fernandez is the 30-year-old Founder & CEO of High Hemp, an all organic herbal wrap company. While working at her father’s cigar company, Paola came up with the idea ‘natural’ alternative to tobacco-based rolling paper and wraps. In 2016, the company created a revolutionary product, hemp wraps: an all-organic sheet of hemp paper made to roll your own herbs. Sales skyrocketed right from the get-go and, as a result, she has turned her idea into a $10 million company in under five years – and all before the age of 30 (which she just turned back in October).

Being first to market definitely has its advantages, but that doesn’t mean Paola did not/does not experience challenges along the way. “As a brown female in the LGBTQ community, my business and legitimacy in the hemp/cannabis industry is at times questioned – but that only makes me work harder and more determined to prove people wrong.” Paola’s goal is to take the cannabis market, which has been heavily dominated by males and make it more approachable to the female consumer.

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis:

Over the years, Peter has assisted multiple clients in various business sectors, including cannabis, retail, manufacturing, agriculture, and the resources sectors, with financing requirements as well as management and consulting mandates, often assisting in pushing companies past their operational roadblocks and helping them achieve their business goals. Most recently, Peter helped Quinsam Capital Corporation through their transition to a focus on cannabis, raising roughly $15M in financing and serving as President and director before resigning to dedicate his time fully to Harborside.

Company Mission:

Harborside’s mission is to be the preeminent retailer of cannabis products in the markets in which we serve by providing quality cannabis at affordable prices: quality, choice and trust. Mike Beaudry is the founder and CEO of HERBL, which has quietly become California’s largest distributor – with dozens of popular brands (Raw Garden, Select, and Garden Society, etc.) and 850+ dispensary customers. Mike came out of the natural foods space – he was president of UNFI as the organic industry came to the forefront. While Mike and HERBL are all about helping the CA cannabis industry grow to its fullest potential, Mike feels it’s equally important to ensure the success of the OG’s as this happens. HERBL is the largest supply chain and distributor of recreational cannabis in California serving 98% of all storefronts statewide. It has revenues of more than $250 million thus far in 2020; EBIDTA positive for 2020.

Full birth name: Michael Beaudry

Title: Founder and CEO

Company: HERBL Solutions (“HERBL”)

Years at current company: Four

Education profile:

High school was as far as I made it academically. My business education has always been in the real world. College was never a consideration and as an eager 18 year old fresh out of high school, I owned and operated a small Italian restaurant in Rhode Island that was financed by my parents. For the five years straight I worked 85+ hours a week–it was a crash course in learning how to run a business, and I didn’t know enough to stop. It was a business with a high failure rate and to me, failure was not an option. I bought it in 1982 and sold in 1987, and that was the education I needed to further my drive as an entrepreneur.

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis:

Given where I am today, my most successful professional accomplishment prior to founding HERBL was certainly my time in the organic food space, and specifically as president of UNFI, the largest wholesale distributor of natural foods in the U.S. It prepared me for this endeavor in cannabis.

Cannabis is on the same trajectory of the boom of the organic foods space in the early 2000s, and the similarities are remarkable. Legalized cannabis is only here today because of all those who fought to establish it, and who never gave up on what they believed in. Like natural foods, cannabis has centered upon lots of smaller, quality brands developed by people passionate about their product and the plant. Today’s multi-billion natural food industry was also established by artisans who came together with a communal mission.

While president of UNFI, within ten years we rapidly scaled from a multi-regional company with $800 million in sales to a national company with $5 billion+ in the books. I see the enormous potential again now. With all that has transpired with the recent election and cannabis reforms, we are now more than ever on the cusp of the same boom.

Company Mission: To connect the cannabis community.

Has the company raised any capital (yes or no): Yes

If so, how much?: Undisclosed

Any plans on raising capital in the future? Yes

Most important company 5-year goal: In five years we’d like to have helped all of our partners, both brands and retail, meet each of their growth goals, and hence to be known for delivering exceedingly great services that create loyal customers, appreciative brands, and happy employees. I’d love to look back and feel we have lived up to our core principles of demonstrated passion, unrelenting integrity, flawless execution, and to have honored the legacy of California cannabis while helping create its future.
