Executive Spotlight: Kimberly Stuck

Kimberly Stuck was the first Marijuana Specialist for the Denver Department of Environmental Health, and therefore, the first Marijuana Specialist for a public health authority in the Nation. Conducting compliance inspections, license sign-offs, running pesticide investigations, writing press releases, conducting recalls, conducting shelf stability and CBD source approvals, she’s done it all. The industry lovingly started calling her the “weed-whacker,” primarily because she has disposed of 28 million dollars of Cannabis/Cannabis products in 2016 alone, due to non-compliance. She has greatly helped Colorado develop requirements, and has also helped California Department of Public Health (CDPH) develop their regulations. She has knowledge of all local, state and federal cannabis and health regulations. During the years as a regulator, she grew a love for the industry and the people in it. While working as a regulator, she noticed a huge gap in the industry when it came to Compliance Consultants. She knew she could make a huge difference and save cannabis companies millions through active preventative measures, if she started her own company, and has already been named one of the 13 women who will help shape the cannabis industry. With the support of the industry, she decided to launch Allay Cannabis Consulting. The company’s goal is to help the cannabis industry thrive on a global scale.

Title: Founder/CEO

Company: Allay Consulting, LLC

Years at current company: 3 years in July

Education profile: BA in Human Nutrition, CP-FS, CQA.

Most successful professional accomplishment before cannabis:  Becoming a CP-FS (Certified Professional – Food Safety) and being a Public Health Investigator for the DDPHE (Denver Department of Environmental Health), it was a great job and I was fortunate to be offered the position. I had a lot of food safety training before taking on this job, but it was this position that gave me the opportunity to first work in the cannabis industry. Without that opportunity, I would have never been able to reach the goals I have so far, in the industry that I love.

Company Mission: To use our unique set of knowledge and skills to assist the cannabis industry in producing safe, consistent, and compliant products. We also want to help protect cannabis workers, and to help normalize the cannabis industry, as a whole, through education and certifications.

Company’s most successful achievement: We recently assisted with the Colorado CHAMP initiative (Colorado Hemp Advancement & Management Plan), and helped write the Colorado Hemp plan, which will be submitted to the USDA. We have partnered with four accredited certifying bodies that have agreed to certify cannabis companies to cGMP and ISO standards, and have helped many companies in the industry achieve their certification goals. We also opened another location in Portland, OR in December, and are continuing to grow our team.

Has the company raised any capital (yes or no): No. I saved enough money once I knew what I wanted to do, to be able to launch without a partner or outside capital.

Any plans on raising capital in the future? Not at this time. We have done pretty well without it so far, but I never say never.

Most important company 5-year goal: To continue to do good for the industry, treat our clients like family, and support them in any way we can to help them succeed. We want to keep growing the business organically, and only hire team members with the same love for the industry that our current team has. We are and will continue to be, involved in regulatory affairs in new, up-and-coming states, training regulators, and fighting for fair and safe regulations within the cannabis industry.
