Launches First-in-the-State Medical Cannabis Product

Scientifically Formulated for Autism Patients of All Ages

NEW ORLEANS (LA) October 1, 2020 /AxisWire/ Louisiana-based Ilera Holistic Healthcare is pleased to announce the statewide launch of the HOPE™ line of medical cannabis tinctures based on groundbreaking scientific research on using cannabis to treat the symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in both children and adults.

Grown, cultivated, processed and packaged in Louisiana through a partnership between Ilera Holistic and Southern University’s Agricultural Center, HOPE™ products are available exclusively through state-licensed MMJ pharmacies and available to all Louisiana patients and families through a doctor’s prescription.

“After seeing the success of HOPE™ in Pennsylvania, we were determined to bring it to patients of Louisiana, a state where we exceed the national percentage of autism diagnoses–while at-risk and under-served patients still struggle to receive safe and effective healthcare,” says Ilera Holistic CEO Dr. Chanda Macias. “Louisiana families deserve full access to all the benefits that cannabis medicine can provide, and we are thrilled to have HOPE in this market and available to everyone.”

Scientific research shows cannabis to be safe and effective on patients (including children) to treat ASD, and patients who use it have reported significant improvement in quality of life, mood, and sleep–and less reliance on other medications.

HOPE™ is the brainchild of Erica Daniels, founder of Hope Grows for Autism, a nonprofit aimed at improving the lives of families affected by autism through research, education and advocacy of medical marijuana.

“The autism community in Louisiana is blessed to have a partner in Ilera Holistic Healthcare to bring HOPE to families affected by ASD,” says Daniels. “Now more than ever,  patients are struggling with the symptoms associated with autism. I am so thrilled that Ilera Holistic Healthcare is bringing HOPE to so many Louisiana patients who need it!”

“HOPE™ is another product with which we are proud to be associated,” said Janana Snowden, director of the Southern Institute for Medicinal Plants at the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center. “The work we do aims to not only provide valuable research but to also provide potentially beneficial and accessible treatments for symptoms due to conditions that thousands of people live with daily, like autism.”

HOPE™ was formulated by Zelira Therapeutics, a leading global therapeutic medical cannabis company with access to the world’s largest and fastest growing cannabis markets. The company’s focus is on developing branded cannabis products for the treatment of a variety of medical conditions including insomnia, autism and chronic non-cancer pain.

HOPE™ is gluten, dairy, soy and nut-free; scientifically formulated, lab tested, and pesticide free; and only available in the state of Louisiana at licensed cannabis pharmacies. HOPE™ will be available in two formulations: “HOPE1,” a 1:1 THC:CBD tincture, and “HOPE2”, a 5:1 THC:CBD tincture.

The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, along with its partner Ilera Holistic Healthcare is launching a CBD product line called ALAFIA. Southern is the first HBCU (Historically Black College University) to start its own CBD product line that is available for sale at dispensaries and other retail locations. ALAFIA means “Inner Peace” in the Nigerian language Yoruba.

“Southern has been a leader in agriculture and the sciences for 140 year while staying true to its mission of access,” said Ray Belton, the president of the Southern University System. “This CBD venture with Ilera encompasses all of that.”

ALAFIA is currently selling two formulated PURE CBD tinctures: Isolated CBD with 500mg for $40 and 1000mg at $80. The Full Spectrum CBD is selling at 500mg for $40 and 1000mg at $80. The first sale took place at the H&W Drug Store Dispensary in New Orleans. More products will be released soon. All of the products are legal, laboratory tested, pesticide-free and scientifically formulated.

Ilera Holistic Healthcare CEO Dr. Chanda Macias said, “Our goals with this line is to support all communities by creating access to wellness products at affordable price points. No one should endure the stress of trying to balance a healthy lifestyle at high costs, that within itself is unhealthy. Our products offer an alternative supplement option at a reasonable price.”

Southern College was chartered in 1880 and was originally located in New Orleans. It opened in 1881 with 12 students. As the school grew, it moved to an area north of Baton Rouge in 1914. In 1947, Southern University Law School was created when LSU’s Law School refused to admit African Americans. The school had almost 7,000 students in 2019. 65% of the student body is female.

“The launch of ALAFIA has been our vision for some time and today we are officially on the market for sale,” said Osagie Imasogie, Chairman of Ilera. “Our team of experts created a superior hemp-derived product with patients in mind. We are proud of this partnership with Southern and pleased to know our product will be available to the people of Louisiana and beyond.”

TerrAscend Corp. (CSE: TER)(OTCQX: TRSSF)  reported that its third-quarter for 2019 increased 53% sequentially to $26.8 million from $17.6 million in the second quarter. It was a large increase over the $1.8 million delivered in the third quarter of 2018.  All figures are reported in Canadian dollars. The company attributed the increase to higher overall sales in Canada as well as strong sales in the U.S.

The net loss for the quarter was $17 million. Total operating expenses were $25 million, which also increased from $18 million in the second quarter.

“Two weeks into my new role, I continue to be impressed with TerrAscend’s unique assets and competitive positioning in both the United States and Canada,” said Jason Ackerman, TerrAscend’s Executive Chairman. “I see even greater potential for our business as we sharpen our focus on the U.S., where we are extremely well-positioned to become a leader in the markets we serve. My top priority now is to operationalize the company’s strategy while driving continued growth, improving profitability and fortifying our financial strength.”

As of September 30, 2019, TerrAscend said it had $6.9 million in cash and cash equivalents. Subsequent to quarter-end, the company said it closed on two tranches of the previously announced non-brokered private placement for total proceeds of approximately $18.0 million

Michael Nashat, CEO of TerrAscend added, “We are on track to deliver a year of tremendous progress for the overall company both operationally and financially. This has been especially evident in recent months, where we expanded our portfolio of U.S. assets with the addition of Ilera Healthcare in Pennsylvania, booked our first international shipment of medical cannabis to Europe, and received Health Canada approvals which tripled the licensed space at our Mississauga facility enabling future sales of new product formats and extracts for the Canadian Cannabis 2.0 market. Meanwhile, we have grown total sales in the third quarter to nearly $27 million from less than $2 million a year ago with improving margins.”

Ilera Healthcare

Late in the third quarter, TerrAscend acquired Ilera Healthcare, the owner of one of five fully vertically integrated licenses in the State of Pennsylvania. Ilera operates a retail dispensary in Plymouth Meeting, PA, with plans to open two additional dispensary sites in the Philadelphia area. The operations include a 67,000 sq. ft. site for cultivation and processing in Waterfall, PA with planned expansion to over 120,000 sq. ft. in 2020. In addition to selling its cannabis products in its own dispensary, Ilera distributes to 70 dispensaries throughout Pennsylvania.

November 11 is Veterans Day. Bond markets are closed for trading (stock markets are open) and it is a National holiday to honor military veterans.

Some cannabis companies are reaching out to veterans with various offers. According to recent studies, there are nearly 18 million U.S. military veterans that experience some form of mental illness, whether that be depression, anxiety, insomnia or PTSD, or physical issue. The VA is currently exploring how CBD affects symptoms of anxiety and PTSD in veterans.

Tribe CBD

Colorado-based CBD brand Tribe CBD  announced its Veterans Assistance Program (VAP) to help bring affordable CBD to the Veteran’s Community. Within this program, U.S. military veterans can receive 30% off all retail prices by sharing their journey with the Tribe team and community.

“Before I created Tribe CBD I was in the Navy, and we feel very strongly that veterans need access to hemp CBD,” said Alec Rochford, Tribe CBD’s Chief Executive Officer. “No one sacrifices more than active-duty military and veterans. Because our products do not contain any THC, I wanted to create a program for veterans to get premium CBD oil at a discount simply because they deserve it.”

“I personally use our CBD tinctures every night to help with sleeping issues and back pain,” shares Alec. There are many stories to be told and voices to be heard within the Veteran’s Community that have yet to be exposed. Tribe’s Assisted Program is intended to bring light to those who have served our country while providing them access to premium broad-spectrum CBD oil and their newly-released CBD gummies at a discounted price.

For further information, visit Tribe CBD’s website to learn more about applying to their Assistance Program. To help celebrate Veteran’s across the country, Tribe has extended their 30% discount to all customers through the end of Veteran’s Day Weekend. Just use code VETERANS30 at checkout.

Stiiizy

STIIIZY – a California-based cannabis lifestyle brand – co-founded by Army veteran James Kim recognizes the incredible contribution of our veterans and wants to honor their service with a newly released camo design battery. This effort is critically important to Kim as he served a 13-month tour in Iraq as a member of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division and began using cannabis as a way of healing for his PTSD. He is pledging 20% of each camo battery sale beginning November 1 to Battle Brothers Foundation in support of their veterans disability claim programming. The nonprofit organization provides much-needed guidance to veterans transitioning back to civilian life, focusing on personal development, physical and mental well-being and economic stability to help set each veteran on a positive path for success.

Flower Co.

To celebrate Veterans Day, Flower Co. is launching a limited edition pre-roll pack in collaboration with Veterans Cannabis Group. The pre-rolls of Semper Hi are available in a 6-pack ($15 for members) or 12-pack ($28 for members) and feature the Veterans Cannabis Logo on the packaging. 100 percent of profits will be donated to the organization.

Earlier this year, Flower Co. announced a program to give US Military veterans a free membership ($119 annual value). Through FlowerVets.com, veterans can get complimentary access to Flower Co.’s unprecedented wholesale cannabis prices, bringing safe and affordable access that wasn’t previously available.

Ilera Healthcare

Pennsylvania medical marijuana company and dispensary, Ilera Healthcare, will host a free screening of Unprescribed, followed by a panel discussion, on Friday, November 15th at 6:30 pm at Greater Plymouth Community Center in Plymouth Meeting.  The documentary film highlights medical marijuana (MMJ) as an alternative to the cocktail of drugs prescribed by military doctors for veterans struggling with PTSD, anxiety and other service-related health issues.

For many of our returning veterans, the battle continues out of uniform as they attempt to recover from war-related trauma through a multitude of prescription medicines.  In his first feature-length motion picture, producer, director, and Air Force veteran Steve Ellmore presents us with stories from fellow veterans, spouses, and family members on coping with war-related injuries and the loss of loved ones due to suicide. After returning from combat these veterans are prescribed what many refer to as the ‘combat cocktail’ or ‘zombie dope,’ leading many to believe that suicide is a possible solution to their pain.

The film takes a closer look at medical marijuana, which could provide a safer alternative for many returning soldiers. Unprescribed has recently won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Film at the Los Angeles Motion Picture Festival, Best Feature Documentary at the 2019 Cannabis Culture Film Festival, and was the Be the Change Winner at the Colorado International Activism Film Festival.  Unprescribed is also an official selection at the 2019 London Cannabis Film Festival, San Francisco Veterans Film Festival, and Honor Film Festival.
